Liv in the News

One therapy dog making a difference

Liv and I were featured on 6abc for our work as a pet therapy team. We chose to visit the Royersford Fire Department, as Liv was visiting them long before we got certified to officially visit people through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. We live in Royersford Borough, and the firefighters are neighbors from all walks of life. When I moved here, we did not know anyone. We visited the fire department on our walks.

In the interview I spoke about the benefits of pet therapy, but that didn’t make it into the 2 minute segment. Why is this news? Journalist Matteo Iadonisi shares human interest stories. These often are deeply positive or inspirational. As humans we have a negativity bias. Journalism like this shows people more good things that are true. We need this news to help us see that despite everything there are still good things.

Liv is meant to be in the community. On a personal note, she was there for me when I really needed someone. When we visit people as a pet therapy team, it is really about bringing a smile or a comforting moment. Some people miss their dogs, or they may not be able to leave their residence. A simple act of kindness to take Liv to visit someone can make a big difference for that person, and it helps keep Liv and I fulfilled. I can see her light up and become more animated when we go to see people. When we go to a new place, she walks in like she knows what to do.
